Samsung Medical Center: Gangnam

Samsung Medical Center is the hospital Joseph and I chose for baby happenings.

Dr. Lee at Rachel IVF helped us make this choice and we could not be happier.

We are very impressed with the quality and care I am receiving and recommend this hospital to any expectant mom to be especially if you are an expat.

For more information about their obstetrics please go here.

It is located in Gangnam, a posh district in Seoul.  There is a lot of space and the facilities are very modern and on par with any high level hospital in the United States.

How do I get there?

Well, it depends on if you already live in Seoul or not.

If you currently live in Seoul, take the subway to Line 3 and go to Ilwon Station.  Come up at exit 1 and there is a free shuttle bus every 10 minutes that takes you the 2 blocks to the hospital.
Once you have gone once, you can make the decision to walk there or take the shuttle.

Since we live in Daejeon, we have 2 ways we can get there:  train or bus.

Usually, I take the KTX train to Seoul Station and then hop on the subway.

*From Seoul Station: go to subway line 4 and go towards Myeongdong.  Go 3 stops and get off at Chungmuro  and transfer to Line 3 headed toward the Express Bus Terminal.  It is 17 stops from Chungmuro to Ilwon Station.
Get off at Ilwon station and go to Exit 1 where you will find the shuttle bus for the hospital.
Travel time from Seoul Station to Ilwon station is approximately 1 hour.
Travel Time from Daejeon to Ilwon station:  2 hours

*From Seoul Express Bus Terminal:  from Daejeon, this is a 2 hour bus ride so I usually take this on the way back because I do some light shopping before getting on the bus home (this is where the Dean and Deluca is located--it just makes me happy).
Go to Line 3 in the subway and go in the direction of Seoul National University of Education.  It is 9 stops from the bus terminal to Ilwon station.
Travel time from the Express Bus Terminal to Ilwon station is approximately 40 minutes depending on when the subway arrives.
Travel Time from Daejeon to Ilwon station: approximately 3 hours

To get to the baby section, go in the Main Gate (the 2nd shuttle stop if you take the shuttle) and enter through the main doors (the Main Gate and the main doors are one and the same) and go straight about 50 yards.  There's an escalator on your left and take that to the 3rd floor.  Get off the escalator and turn 180 degrees and go straight (the outpatient bill pay is right in front of you) and make the first (and only) right.  The check in line is on your left.  Give the lady at the counter your hospital card.  If it's your first time, you must have an appointment so you will give her your ARC card.  Make sure if it's your first time, when you pay your fee, make sure the lady gives you your hospital card.  If she doesn't give it to you, make sure you ask.

If you are already pregnant the lady at the check in counter will give you a tiny cup to pee in with a protein stick in it.  Go pee and bring it back to the lady in front of the check in counter (there are 2 blood pressure machines on the table).  She will check the stick and ask you to throw it away and then she will measure your height, weight, and blood pressure.  Then they will tell you or take you to where you go next.

Everyone is super helpful and most speak English, but if they don't they take you to the nicest lady ever and she speaks English and can tell you about things.

Our doctor, Dr. Oh, speaks perfect English so it has never been a problem for us.
