Firsts

Our first week with our new son and our first week as new parents. Being parents to a newborn is a decidedly scary time period.
They cannot talk. The just eat, sleep, poop and cry.  Jasper isn't crying too much unless it is a diaper change and the wipes are cold or his first sponge bath at home.
We hold him a lot. ♡

Jasper also has mild jaundice which scared us. When we brought him home from the hospital last Thursday they told us his score was 9.1 and 'normal.' They said if it seemed to get worse, etc to bring him to a clinic or hospital. Around this past Sunday he seemed to be getting worse so I took him to the hospital Monday morning. They ran his blood test again and his score was 14.5.  Since he was born at 36w4d the score technically is a little higher due to his being born a little early. The doctor gave us the option to admit him or take him home to do home treatments. We opted for home treatments.  They do NOT have the bili blankets to take home like in America. Super disappointing.
That night he was not eating well for his 8pm feeding and he was a bit limp which really worried us so we took him to the ER. The ER in Korea is fabulous. I kid you not. Another post on that later.
The staff took us to the NICU to get his blood tested again and his score had dropped to a 12.8. Yes! He also began eating better after that and even peed on us when we changed his diaper. I took him for his check up from that today and he is the same but doing well. This week there is not much sun so a home sunbath is not yet an option but hopefully he will poop more and get out all the rest of the yucky stuff.
Funny story about our visit to the NICU: Joseph was holding Jasper so he got a ride to the NICU in a wheelchair. Ha! Im the one with stitches and he gets the wheelchair. So funny.
Other firsts these 8 days are first home sponge bath, and first nail trim.
