Gestational Diabetes and Checkups

My last appointment was on Christmas Eve.

I spoke with the doctor about my blood results and she said that my numbers are borderline.  Not too high and not high enough to *worry* about but high enough to take precautions.

Dr. Oh and I also spoke about delivery of the baby.  Since my body is quite small overall (in structure), the possibility of needing a c-section has risen significantly.  I have a small pelvis and a small torso and we will continue to check things as we go on but most likely I will need a c-section. The second reason is the baby's size.  She (still 90% certain it is a girl) is normal and healthy and perfect, but she is long and she has a big head and there are still 9 weeks to go.  She will get bigger and perhaps be delivered earlier.  Maybe a week or so early--we will see as it gets closer.
Right now she kicks a ton and normally it has been at night or in the morning but this week it has started to become a lot more often during the day.

Nothing is set yet, but just looking at things closely as the due date approaches.

This past appointment on Christmas Eve I also had a consultation with 2 different people: a diabetes specialist and a nutritionist.  I was given a blood glucose monitor and things to take my blood sugar FIVE times a day and also an eating plan I need to follow exactly until my next appointment.

My checkups are now every 2 weeks.  My next appointment is January 9th.  When I go for this appointment, I will take the blood glucose machine and all the paperwork and charts I am filling out now to the 2 ladies (diabetes specialist and nutritionist) and review my numbers.  If they are fine (they are perfect and I've cheated a few times), then I do not need insulin or other medication to control it.  I'm hoping I won't need to take my blood sugar again either.  *fingers crossed*

Also on my next visit, Dr. Oh has a conference so I will see her doctor friend, Dr. Sung.  I will ask him about c-sections in this hospital and what is provided for pain after delivery and what other types of materials are provided: monster pads, mesh undies, etc. I would like to be as prepared as possible.
I will also ask Dr. Oh, but I think it best to get 2 answers from 2 doctors and go from there.

On the upside, I like eggs again.  Joseph made me the best sunny side up eggs ever over the weekend.  They were delicious.  This week we will get the carry on suitcase out and begin packing it for the hospital just in case it is needed sooner.  I am able to wear perfume again and next week I will try a small amount of make up to see how my body likes that.  Hopefully I won't have an allergic reaction like before but I will have the Benadryl ready just in case.

A week or a few days before the baby is supposed to come I plan on getting my nails and toes done and the day before (if it is a c-section) I want to make sure my hair looks good.  I really wish I could get a prenatal massage but that hasn't hit Korea yet unless it is in Seoul--but I haven't been able to find one in Seoul either. So I just continue to do my stretching and things.  It's almost as good...
I am very much looking forward to a spa treatment the next time I am able to go to America (June-ish?).  I am still able to wear my engagement ring and wedding band and I'm still not all that hungry.  I cannot eat all of the food they want me to eat.  I have become more hungry though.  I eat a few bites of something and then am so full Joseph gets to finish it for me.  I still drink about 3 liters of water each day--which stinks at work because I literally pee each hour or more.

In the nutritionists office she basically told me I wasn't eating enough to keep the baby alive and that I needed to eat more.  I was like...uh huh...when I told her I don't eat rice she practically fell out of her chair and asked me a few more times to make double sure I don't eat rice.  Then she asked why and I told her I'm not Korean...I don't eat rice every day.  She asked me to write down what I normally eat on a given day and she didn't know what Cheerios were so I showed her a photo and the nutrition label.  Cheerios are okay for me to eat (of course thy are).  To be fair, 90% of Korean cereal has more sugar in it that American cereal, so that was a valid question.  She also told me that I don't eat enough carbs---I have NEVER been told that in my life---and I also don't eat enough vegetables and I drink too much milk (2x a day).  Drink too much milk?  For real?  I don't like drinking milk but I force myself to drink it for the calcium.  I have continued with the milk 2x a day, and my blood sugar is still perfect so I shall continue.

Not complaining, but just saying.  Things are what they are and this pregnancy has been really easy compared to other people and if this is the only medical snag, then so be it.  I have no reason to complain and I won't.

I feel perfectly fine, just big.  I am really tired at about 6pm each night and it seems I use my energy during the week for work and on the weekend I feel like an old woman.  About 4 or 5pm on Sunday afternoon my energy starts to come back but Saturday is not that great.  My arms and legs feel so heavy and I feel so tired and drained.  Joseph and I have an outing for a couple of hours, but the thought of putting forth energy to come back home sucks.  I have begun taking a nap or at least laying down more on the weekends.  It is harder to do during the week because there are things to be done.

Check out the photos of what I am supposed to eat and do for these 2 weeks:
3 meals plus 3 snacks= too much food for me to eat

No touch-ups.  Just a filter.
No makeup :(
